Anesthesia
Arrival time:
Plan to arrive one hour before your surgery to meet the anesthesia team.
Preoperative Food and Drink:
It is safe to have clear liquids up to one (4) hours before your operation. Infants may have breast milk or formula up to four (4) hours before surgery. This will prevent clinical dehydration.
Liquids
Clear liquids are defined as:
- Water
- Black coffee
- Tea without milk
- Apple juice
Medications
You should plan to take all of your regular medications with as little water as possible on the morning of surgery. This applies to all medications EXCEPT:
- Coumadin and blood thinners – your surgeon will give you specific instructions
- Aspirin – you should hold this for five (5) days in advance
- Insulin – we will manage your blood sugar when you arrive at the facility
